Srinagar, April 07, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Islamic scholars and clerics across Kashmir have expressed anguish over the continued harassment of Hurriyat forum Chairman and Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Patron, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq by the National Investigation Agency through repeated notices. A statement issued by the Mutahida Majlis-e-Amal and the scholars also denounced the authorities for frequently imposing restrictions and disallowing prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
The statement was issued by the scholars including Grad Mufti, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam, Professor Ghulam Muhammad Butt Al Madani, Agha Syed Hassan Al Moosvi Al-Safavi, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Moulana Abbas Ansari, Moulana Rehmatullah Mir, Moulana Syed Fareedudin Bukhari, Showkat Hussain Keng, Moulana Khursheed Ahmed Qanoongo, Moulana Reyaz Ahmed Hamadani, Mufti Abdul Rashid, Moulana Ahmed Sayed, Molana Bashir Qasmi, Muhammad Tehseen Qasmi, Moulana Syed Ahmed Naqashbandi, Mufti Ziyaul Haq Nazimi, Moulana Nazir Ahmed Qadiri, Moulana Asgar Hussain, Bashir Ahmed Kanth, Mufti Muzzafar Hussain, Ghulam Rasool Samoon, representatives of Jamaat-e-Islami, Anjuman-e-Auqaf and others.
“Efforts to intimidate the Mirwaiz and associate him with some matter that he remotely has no concern with only adds fuel to the already deteriorating situation in the valley,” the statement said adding that Mirwaiz is “the social, religious and spiritual leader of Kashmiri people, and associating him with such activities to defame his personal character is highly deplorable.”
The statement also termed the frequent sealing of historic Jamia Masjid on Fridays as unacceptable interference in religious affairs of Muslims of the valley. Jamia Masjid is the epicenter of the religious and cultural moorings of the people of the valley which is being frequently closed down for worshipers preventing them from exercising their religious rights, the statement said.
The pulpit of Jamia Masjid has preached the message of Islam as the religion of peace and has always reflected the truth about the condition of people, MMU said. “Sadly, repressive measures are being taken to silence this sacred pulpit promoting the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in its true and pristine form,” they said.
