Srinagar, May 15, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Private Schools Association of Jammu and Kashmir (PSAJK) has condemned the directive of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) asking students from the occupied territory not to take admission in educational institutes of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
The PSAJK Chairman, G N Var, in a statement issued in Srinagar said such directions negate the basic principle of SAARC cooperation, to which both India and Pakistan are signatories. “India is part of SAARC group and all educational institutes in all the countries should be treated at par. One cannot pick and choose educational institutes in a particular region. Today they are barring educational institute in AJK and tomorrow they may bar educational institutes in other countries,” he said.
“Besides impacting education of hundreds of students it will also have serious ramification in larger run. The SAARC group and all associated agreements have been honoured through many decades and suddenly barring AJK educational institutes in AJK is beyond comprehension,” he said.
G N Var urged the Indian government to keep educations out of ambit of politics. “Education should be a neutral zone and no politics should be played on it,” he said.
The Association said that AJK has some good professional institutes and it is choice of a student to take admission wherever he or she likes. The All India Council for Technical Education is the statutory body and a council for technical education, under Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development.
