UN Special Envoy for Libya Ghassan Salame briefed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on the initiatives of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to end the fighting in the North African nation.
During their meeting in the Russian capital Moscow, Salame and Lavrov discussed the latest developments in Libya, UNSMIL said in a statement on Wednesday.
It added that the Russian foreign minister expressed his full support for the efforts of the UN special envoy and stressed the need to stop the fighting and resume the political process.
Salame visited the United States, France and Italy in the past few days as part of his efforts to mobilize and unify international positions on the situation in Libya in order to reach a resolution on a ceasefire after the military escalation that has been going on since 4 April.
