Srinagar, July 11, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, senior APHC leader and the Chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, has paid tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931. On 13th July in 1931, the troops of Dogra Maharaja had killed 22 Kashmiris, one after the other, outside Central Jail in Srinagar during the court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked Kashmiri people to defy the Dogra rule.
He said that the martyrs had raised voice against a system that sustained itself on exploitation and denial of political and democratic rights. He said the people of Kashmir will and always recognize their great sacrifices and pay glorious tributes to them. He said the martyrs of July 13 sacrificed their precious lives against the enforced rule on Kashmiris and this process is continuing till date.
He said that the sacrifices offered by 13th July martyrs were aimed at fighting autocracy and inspired people to strive for establishment of a true democratic set-up in the occupied territory which although, so far, not accomplished but the people of Kashmir are fully committed and are relentlessly struggling for such a dream.
He said that India was using every tactic to suppress the ongoing political movement but would never succeed in its nefarious designs. He urged the Indian government to give up its rigid stance and grant the Kashmiris their inalienable birth right to self-determination.
Meanwhile, the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying tributes to the martyrs, said the July agitation of 1931 was the first strong and collective voice of the Kashmiri people against the century old oppressive autocratic rule and those killed among the first martyrs of Kashmir.
It said the forum Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, will lead a peaceful procession after Zuhr prayers from Srinagar Jamia Masjid to Martyrs’ Graveyard, Naqshband Sahab shrine (RA) on Saturday and collective prayers will be offered for the martyrs at the graveyard.
