Srinagar, July 12, 2019 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Hurriyat forum and Awami Action Committee have strongly condemned the house detention of their Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and prevention of people from offering Juma congregational prayers in historic Jamia Masjid of Srinagar. The statement said that curbs on Juma prayers in Jamia Masjid and stopping Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to fulfill his religious responsibility of leading Juma prayers is tantamount to usurp religious freedom of the people.
It said that Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was scheduled to chair an extra-ordinary meeting at Mirwaiz Manzil in Srinagar to give final shape to the arrangements for July 13 Martyrs Day programmes, but the authorities placed him under house arrest. It termed the actions as immoral and undemocratic.
The statement said the right to self-determination movement, after passing through different phases, has entered the decisive stage due to the unprecedented sacrifices of the Kashmiri people. It stressed that according to the programme, a peaceful procession will be taken out from Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid to the Martyrs’ Graveyard at Naqashband Sahib, tomorrow to pay tributes to the martyrs. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will lead the procession.
