Gilani concerned about detention of Mir Hafeezullah, others

Srinagar, June 09, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has expressed serious concern over the continued illegal detention of Hurriyet leader, Mir Hafeezullah, and demanded his immediate release along with other political prisoners.

Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Mir Hafeezullah had been languishing in jails since 2008 and his only crime was his popularity as Hurriyet leader in the Islamabad district.

Syed Ali Gilani paid tributes to resolve of unlawfully detained Hurriyet activists, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, Nisar Ahmad Butt, Sabzar Ahmad Paal and Gulzar Ahmad. He added that there was no constitutional or legal justification for their detention but the authorities were creating hurdles in their release.

The veteran Hurriyet leader appealed to the international human rights organisations to take notice of the plight of Kashmiri detainees and put pressure on India to release them without any further delay.

On the other hand, the forum patronised by Syed Ali Gilani will hold a seminar at Hyderpora on Tuesday to remember over 125 youth who were killed by Indian troops during the 2010 uprising and other Kashmiri martyrs.

The forum in a statement issued in Srinagar said that besides Syed Ali Gilani, Hurriyet leaders, intellectuals, journalists and members of civil society will address the seminar.
