Gilani pays tributes to martyred youth

Srinagar, June 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has paid glowing tributes to youth of Pulwama who were recently killed by Indian troops. Syed Ali Gilani in a statement issued in Srinagar said that participation of thousands of people in the funeral processions of the martyred youth was encouraging and their enthusiasm was commendable.

He called upon the Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, that it is not possible to assess the situation of occupied Kashmir in the closed door meetings with local administration but watch video clips of the funeral processions of the recently martyred youth to have a feel of Kashmiris’ sentiment.

“It is better for him to watch recent video clips of the funeral processions of the martyrs and decide himself without any prejudice about the people’s sentiments. It is a befitting reply for those who claim that the people have disassociated themselves from the ongoing freedom struggle,” the veteran leader said.

He expressed sympathies with the families of martyred youth and those whose houses were destroyed by the troops in the area. He appealed to the people to set up Bait-ul-Maal Committees in every village of the territory to help such families.

Meanwhile, the forum patronised by Syed Ali Gilani has termed his continued detention as lawlessness. The forum spokesman in a statement in Srinagar said that the veteran leader was neither being allowed to come out of his residence nor permitted to offer Juma prayers.

“Gilani continues to be in illegal detention since his arrival from Delhi in March this year and was not allowed to fulfil his social and religious obligations. It is an acknowledgment of defeat by the puppet administration,” he added, urging the world human rights organisations to intervene and use their influence for his release.

On the other hand, the pro-India National Conference leader and Member of Indian Parliament, Dr Mehboob Beg, in a media interview in Srinagar said that the authorities should let Syed Ali Gilani free and allow him propagate his ideology.

He said that the authorities must provide space to Hurriyet leaders as in a democratic set-up every one had right to put forth his views freely. He added that elections had no bearing on the Kashmir dispute.
