Glowing tributes paid to Maqbool Butt, Afzal Guru in IOK

Srinagar, February 09, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM), Aasiya Andrabi has paid glowing tributes to Kashmiri leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, on their martyrdom anniversaries. Aasiya Andrabi in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “Martyrdoms are an inseparable part of our ongoing liberation movement and it is the responsibility of the Kashmiri people to protect the supreme sacrifices of martyrs and take their mission to its logical end.”

The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) of the occupied territory, in a meeting chaired by its President, Mian Abdul Qayoom, also eulogized the sacrifices of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru. It termed the martyred leaders as shining stars of Kashmir liberation movement who by laying down their lives for a pious cause had not only achieved martyrdom but also gave a new impetus to the ongoing liberation struggle.

It said that Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru were sent to the gallows only to subjugate and suppress the voice of the people of Kashmir and to convey to them that they could also be falsely implicated and hanged for asking freedom from Indian occupation.

The meeting also condemned the crackdown of the pro-freedom leaders, terming it as the worst kind of state-terrorism and human rights violation.

Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984, for his leading role in the ongoing liberation movement and Muhammad Afzal Guru was executed in the same jail on February 9, last year, in connection with the attack on Indian Parliament in 2001. Both the leaders were buried in the jail premises.

The High Court Bar Association also strongly condemned the molestation of a lady doctor by a puppet minister. It demanded immediate arrest of the minister and awarding of exemplary punishment to him for his criminal and shameful act.
