Islamabad, June 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Trade and industry have an important role in promoting economic activities and government would take all required measures to facilitate businessmen for reviving the economy. This was assured by Mr. Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry, Member National Assembly from Vehari while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He said PML-N government has announced a business-supportive budget to use private sector as an engine of growth and is seriously working to come up with more business-friendly policies so that trade and industry could work up to its full potential and contribute effectively in improving the economy.

We have allocated a big chunk of budget to cope with energy crisis and government would appreciate input of businessmen for addressing all issues of economy, he added. He said he belongs to a common man family and it was only with the support of Allah the Almighty and his voters that he defeated a very powerful competitor. He said he would never led down his supporters and make all efforts for resolving their problems.

In his welcome address, Mr. Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry appreciated the services of Mr. Tahir Iqbal Chaudhry for people as MPA two times and this time has been elected as MNA. He hoped that as MNA, he would play more positive role in addressing the problems of common man and business community.

He said Vehari is a backward area and government should focus on establishing industrial estate and special economic zones to give boost to industrial activities and uplift the living standard of people of this region.

He said government should review energy mix and focus on exploitation of cheap energy sources which will help in bringing down cost of doing business, attract more investment and accelerate the pace of business and economic activities.

Zafar Bakhtawari said during 1960s through 1980s, share of hydro power was 60 percent in our energy mix which has come down to around 30 percent now while share of oil has increased due to which production cost has gone very high. He stressed that government should focus on hydro and coal for electricity production which are abundant in the country. He said ICCI would continue to provide all sorts of support to Vehari Chamber of Commerce so that it could facilitate the growth of trade and industry in his area.
