Government wants development, good governance and peace in Gilgit- Baltistan: Minister

Islamabad, June 29, 2013 (PPI-OT): Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Control, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the Federal Government wants to ensure development, good governance and peace in Gilgit-Baltistan. He was talking to the newly appointed Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan, Mr. Younus Dhagha who made a courtesy call on him here today.

He asked the Chief Secretary to fast-track the investigation into the recent murder of 11 tourists and keep him informed about the progress made in this regard.

The Minister said visit of foreign tourists to the scenic Gilgit-Baltistan region should be encouraged not only by ensuring fool-proof security for them but also by facilitating them through good packages with tour operators.

He said two days ago a group of 25 foreign tourists went to Skardu which will give confidence to other aspiring tourists as well. He said visits such as these must be highlighted in the media.

Mr. Dhagha thanked the government for reposing confidence in him and assured that he would do his best to come up to the expectations of the government.
