Government wants to settle issues with Taliban as a part of Itmam-e-Hujjat: President

Islamabad, February 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): President Mamnoon Hussain held an interactive session with the prominent print media persons at State Guest House, Karachi today.

The President discussed the current political situation of the country at length with the participants. The President said that current government wants to settle the issues with the Taliban as a part of Itmam-e-Hujjat. “The Taliban groups which are hostile now may come to terms after success of negotiations with those who are on the table now”, said the President.

The President realized the gravity of deteriorated law and order situation of the country and told the audience that restoring peace is the responsibility of government without which prosperity, especially in terms of economic growth, would be an elusive dream. The President particularly highlighted the conditions of Karachi and stated that the government is going in right direction to restore peace in the City of Lights.

While responding to a question regarding imposition of sharia in country, the President replied that the Constitution of 1973 fully encompasses sharia as no law contrary to Holy Quran and Sunnah could be enacted in the country.

The President appreciated the strengthening of democracy in Pakistan. The President also underlined the impartiality of his office as the President has no role to play in the political affairs of the country after 18th amendment.

The President informed the audience regarding his personal interests in Polio Eradication Campaign in the country as two meetings have already been held on this issue at Aiwan-e-Sadar and Peshawar. The President said that expanding education is also his top priority.
