Greater Police-Community Cooperation Key to Control Crimes – Jamil Hashmi

Islamabad, June 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): Greater police-community collaboration is the key to control crimes and improve law and order situation as without public cooperation, police cannot achieve better results. This was stated by Mr. Jamil Ahmad Hashmi, Superintendent of Police (Saddar) Islamabad while addressing business community at Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

He discussed different options with businessmen for improving security situation in the federal capital. He underlined that partnership-based and collaborative efforts between policy and community will prove more efficient and effective to preventing crimes and improving the state of law and order.

Jamil Hashmi emphasized that people should come forward without any fear to provide leads to police about any doubtful activity so that police could take corrective measures. He said that Islamabad Police has already traced and nabbed many terrorists including 2 car theft gangs with the cooperation of people. He stressed that we should work jointly to building confidence and trust between police and community that would greatly help in improving law and order situation.

Jamil Hashmi said businessmen are playing a vital role in promoting business and economic activities and assured that Islamabad Police and ICCI will work together to address business community’s security related problems.

In his welcome address, Zafar Bakhtawari, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry highlighted the problems being faced by the businessmen. He said abduction of businessmen for ransom, rising incidents of robberies from shops and banks, car thefts and street crimes have created a sense of insecurity in businessmen and police should play more active role to make Islamabad a crime-free city.

He said police should install scanning gates at all entry/exit points to improve security situation while check posts should also be shifted to border areas as great number of check posts within the city is create problems and cause inconvenience to people.

He said many overseas Pakistan are keen to invest in Pakistan, but lack of rule of law was holding them back from coming to Pakistan. He was of the view that rule of law and improvement in law and order situation would help in improving business and industrial activities, attracting more investment and creating more jobs. Therefore, all possible resources should be utilized to make Islamabad a model city in terms of security for the rest of the country.
