Guru’s execution boosted liberation movement: KUSU

Srinagar, February 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) has paid glorious tributes to Muhammad Afzal Guru on the eve of his first martyrdom anniversary. Afzal Guar was executed in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 9, 2013, and buried in the jail premises. The KUSU in a statement issued in Srinagar termed Muhammad Afzal Guru as Omar Mukhtar of Kashmir. It said that martyring Afzal Guru might have satisfied India’s collective conscience but it had only reinvigorated the Kashmir liberation movement.

“Far from being a victim, Shaheed Afzal is actually one of the shining stars of the Kashmir movement. He will forever remain etched in the memory of Kashmiri people as a defender of their faith against Indian occupation,” it added.

The KUSU also paid rich tributes to prominent liberation leader, Muhammad Maqbool Butt, on his martyrdom anniversary. The statement said that Muhammad Maqbool But and Muhammad Afzal Guru were beacons of light for Kashmir.
