Historic Denso Hall Facade Cleaning to take place with a spice of Karavan Karachi’s street fest activities

Karachi, April 01, 2019 (PPI-OT): The Historic Denso Hall Facade Cleaning festival would be held jointly by Heritage Foundation Pakistan and Rotary Club Karachi from 14th April 2019. It was decided in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Karachi Itfikhar Shallwani.

Founder of the Heritage Foundation renowned architect Yasmeen Lari briefed about the campaign saying that it would be an effort to bring back the glory of Karachi, Heritage Foundation of Pakistan, as a first step, is embarking on scientific cleaning of facades of Karachi’s historic buildings. Beginning with historic Denso Hall (1886), facades of all buildings located on Marriott Road will be taken up one at a time every Sunday as a voluntary movement for safeguarding Karachi’s heritage, and creating livelihood opportunities through pedestrianizing Marriott Road. Rotary Club Karachi New Central is a partner in this noble venture, and the government has given it its blessings.

Architect Yasmeen Lari made detailed presentation on the method for gentle scientific cleaning of Karachi’s beautiful buff coloured stone to heritage volunteers. The occasion provides an opportunity to all Karachiites to participate in taking care of our heritage. On the occasion various Karavan Karachi’s street fest activities – successfully executed every Sunday, over seven months in 2001 — from music to street theatre to sketching etc. will also be organized.

Commissioner said Sindh government is making all out efforts for the development and beatification of the city and those from civil society want to contribute would be considered a great support and would be encouraged and provide all possible support for the progress and benefit of the city. He said the Façade Cleaning Festival would help the government to its programme to bring back the glory of the city.

Commissioner hoped that the Programme would be helpful to bring about public awareness regarding various environmental aspects and will also define the way forward through cooperation of government agencies and civil society to make Karachi not only the cheapest city but among the most liveable cities.

Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shallwani directed the officials of KMC, DMCs, and Traffic Police and other concerned agencies to carry out all possible support with regard to the cleanliness and beautification work conceptualized by the Heritage Foundation’s programme Karvan Karachi so as to rehabilitation work for the historic buildings as well as historic streets could be carried out with the support of expert stakeholders from the Heritage Foundation Pakistan.

It was briefed to the Commissioner that the it would be a scientific cleaning of facades of historic buildings and cleaning and greening of streets as a voluntary civil society movement will show the enthusiasm of Karachiites to begin taking care of their city’s environment. The administration will provide security and traffic arrangements for the convenience of the general public for regular Sunday Karavan Karachi street festivals which will showcase Karachi’s diverse cultural heritage and provide entertainment for families including youth and children.

It was briefed about the programme in the meeting that as a voluntary civil society movement will show the enthusiasm of Karachiites to begin taking care of their city’s environment. The meeting decided that concerned agencies would support the foundation to provide support for security and traffic arrangements on the occasion of cleanliness work.
