Independence Day celebrated in Tehran

Tehran, August 14, 2014 (PPI-OT): An impressive ceremony was held at the Ambassador Residence this morning to mark Pakistan Independence Day. The ceremony commenced with the hoisting of flag by the Ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani to the accompaniment of national anthem.

The Ambassador read out the messages of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador in his speech while felicitating members of the Pakistan community on the eve of Pakistan Independence Day paid glowing tributes to the martyrs of Pakistan movement who laid down their lives for the creation of a separate homeland.

He said Muslims of the sub-continent, under the inspiring leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, struggled to achieve an independent Pakistan. He said on this day, all Pakistanis should re-dedicate themselves to uphold the principles for which Pakistan was created.

Referring to Pakistan-Army’s Zarb-e-Azb operation in North Waziristan to uproot terrorism, the Ambassador said that the success of the operation is not only to the benefit of Pakistan but also to the benefit of neighboring countries and the region.

Speaking to Iranian print and electronic media on the sidelines of the Independence Day function, the Ambassador highlighted the significance of the Day and commented on Pakistan-Iran relations. He said as two neighboring and Muslim countries, Pakistan and Iran have always enjoyed good relations and the leadership in both the countries is committed to further deepening these relations.

On IP Gas Pipeline, he said the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was committed to pursue the project as Pakistan wants to overcome its energy shortage. Referring to Pakistan-Iran trade and economic relations, the Ambassador said the leadership in both countries desire to enhance the level of these relations to $ 5 billion.

The flag hoisting ceremony was attended by a number of Iranian Scholars and Journalists as well as members of Pakistani community, officials of the Mission, ECO Secretariat, students and teachers of the Pakistan International School and College, Tehran.

The Mission also published a special supplement in Iran News to mark Pakistan Independence Day. The supplement included messages of President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and articles titled “Pakistan 2025 together for better tomorrow”, “Women-Pakistan’s vibrant component of progress”, “Zarb-e-Azb” –the quest for peace” and “Pakistan-Iran trade relations”.
