India using propaganda to mislead world on Kashmir: Gilani

Srinagar, September 07, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani has said that New Delhi has unleashed a propaganda campaign to mislead the international community about the Kashmir dispute. Interacting with the international media including the correspondents of BBC, New York Times and Washington Post at his residence in Srinagar, Syed Ali Gilani briefed them about the ground realities in the territory.

He said that the people of Kashmir with their sincere heart had always been greeting the tourists and visiting personalities. “We don’t nurture any sort of grudge against any tourist and we always treat them as our valuable guests. But Zubin Mehta’s musical concert is politically motivated than being a cultural show. India under this garb intends to convey a distorted picture of ground realities in Kashmir,” he maintained.

The veteran leader said that the people of Kashmir were in a state of mourning as Delhi had turned down their demand to hand over the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru. “When all Kashmiris are protesting against the forced disappearance of more than 10,000 youth and the innocents killed in Markundal and Gool, India in collaboration with Germany is portraying the situation as per their ploy as if there is no problem.”

Syed Ali Gilani said that Indian troops were involved in massacre of innocent people. Referring to the brutal killing of five European tourists by Indian army-backed Al-Faran, he said, “It is sufficient proof about the authoritarian approach of India and Germany could have easily assessed the grim situation and human rights abuses in Kashmir.”

Commenting on the search operations and blockades, he said that the authorities to make the show a success, had opted for coercive measures and unjustified restrictions. He said that India had failed to suppress the liberation sentiment of Kashmiris.

Meanwhile, Syed Ali Gilani in an open letter to the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, said, “Kashmiris are dismayed and disappointed by the decision of the German Embassy in India to organise a concert in Kashmir.” He said that the concert was being used by India to legitimise its military control on Kashmir and whitewash its atrocities in the territory. He also invited the German Chancellor to visit Kashmir herself and witness the sufferings of the people.
