Islamabad: An Indian delegation consisting of officials from regulatory agencies of India will educate the Pakistani business community on existing customs procedures, regulations and standards & certification requirements for entering into Indian market, during their visit to Pakistan.
The delegation will consist of officials from Customs, Bureau of Indian Standards, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India and Export Inspection Council. This Indian Regulator’s Visit is the follow up of the 5th and 6th Round of Commerce Secretary Level Talks held in April and November, 2011 respectively.
During the 5th Round of Commerce Secretary Level Talks, the issue of Non-Tariff Barriers (NTB’s) faced by the business community of Pakistan in the Indian trade regime was taken up with the Indian side. Subsequently, during the visit of Commerce Minister of Pakistan to India, it was proposed to the India side to send a delegation of Regulators to Pakistan to educate the business community on the NTBs. During the 6th Round of Commerce Secretary Level Talks at New Delhi, Indian side agreed to send a delegation of Regulators to Pakistan to hold interactive sessions with the business community on Indian import regime.
The regulators will hold meetings with the business community in Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) Lahore, on 26 January, 2012 and in Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, Karachi on Friday, 27 January, 2012.
Ministry of Commerce is very hopeful that the said Indian visit will provide awareness to Pakistani community to know about the entering procedures into Indian markets and encourages all the stakeholders to attend said sessions.
