Indian forces have crossed all limits of suppression in IHK

Srinagar, June 01, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that Indian troops and police have crossed all limits to suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing movement for right to self-determination during the past two decades.

Addressing a gathering in Srinagar, the APHC Chairman said, Indian forces have crossed all limits to suppress the ongoing liberation movement in the occupied territory and over 9,000 enforced disappearances and nearly 4,000 unmarked graves in Kashmir stand testimony to it.

The Mirwaiz urged the UN Security Council to conduct an impartial probe into enforced disappearances in occupied Kashmir through the International Court of Justice. He said that families of the people who were subjected to enforced disappearance were living a miserable life. “They have been living a life of uncertainty for years together. They have a right to know what happened to their beloved ones. It is a serious humanitarian issue concerning lives of thousands of families,” he added.

The APHC Chairman said that only an impartial probe could ascertain whether the people subjected to enforced disappearance were buried in unmarked graves in Kashmir. He pointed out that the international community had failed to play its role in this regard. “Even the Indian civil society members and those claiming to be well-wishers of Kashmiris adopted criminal silence over this issue and other human rights abuses in Kashmir,” he stated.

The Mirwaiz said that it was the responsibility of the global human rights organizations like Asia Watch and Amnesty International to take notice of human rights abuses including enforced disappearance in the occupied territory.

The APHC Chairman deplored that despite passing of four years, those involved in the brutal killing and rape of two women, Aasiya and Neelofar, in Shopian were yet to be punished. “Continued denial of justice cannot deter the people of Kashmir from fighting against discrimination and achieving the inalienable right to self-determination,” he added.
