Indian trooper killed, six injured in Ladakh explosion

Srinagar, August 03 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, one Indian trooper was killed and six others were injured in an explosion in Ladakh.

An explosive material went off inside the Chushul Garrison in Ladakh, killing one trooper identified as Sepoy Gurmeet Singh and injuring six others. As per media reports the army men had gone on patrolling duties to the forward areas, 30km ahead of Pangong Lake, where they spotted an explosive device. The device was carried back to the unit located at Chushul Garrison where some army men reportedly tinkered with it triggering a blast.

On the other hand, a moderate intensity earthquake shook Kishtwar, Doda and other parts of the occupied territory. “The quake, measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale, hit the area around 3.08am today,” Met officials said. The epicentre of the quake was 12 kms north-east of Kishtwar. There was no immediate report of any casualty or injury reported from anywhere, they added.

However, the quake and aftershocks triggered panic among the people, who rushed out of their homes and spent the night in the open in Kishtwar and Bhaderwah areas.

A moderate quake of 5.4 magnitude had hit the occupied territory, the other day.
