IOK Muslims had nothing to do with Pandits’ exodus: Nayeem

Srinagar, January 22, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (G) leader and the Jammu and Kashmir National Front (JKNF) Chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, has said that the Muslims had nothing to do with the exodus of Pandits from the Kashmir Valley. Nayeem Ahmad Khan in a statement issued in Srinagar said, “This is highly deplorable that a few Pandits have been maligning the same Kashmiri Muslims who historically gave them preferential treatment and protected them since 1947, but in 1990 we were helpless to avert the tragic manipulated events as we were curfew–bound when their internal displacement was being engineered.”

He said that the so-called representatives of Pandits were working at the behest of Indian agencies and the same elements were responsible for the Pandits’ migration. “Pandits have imposed exile on themselves and it is these self-styled representatives who are blocking the community’s return, otherwise the whole population of Kashmir is ready to welcome their Pandit brethren,” he added.

Nayeem Khan said that the presence of Sikhs in occupied Kashmir was also a glaring example that the Kashmiri Muslims believed in peaceful co-existence. “These self-styled representatives of Pandits must know that lakhs of Kashmiri Muslims faced internal displacement and migration across the Line of Control and over one lakh people have been killed during the past nearly three decades. When Pandits left for Jammu in 1990, more than two hundred Muslims were massacred in Srinagar, Kupwara and Islamabad by Indian forces,” he added.
