IR experts, Hurriyat leaders stress for holding of plebiscite in IIOJK

Experts on International Relations and Kashmiri Hurriyat Leaders have stressed that holding free and transparent plebiscite under UN administration is the only solution to long-standing Kashmir issue.

Participating in Radio Pakistan’s transmission in connection with Yaum-e-Istehsal on Friday, IR expert Dr Mujeeb Afzal underlined the need to promote unity among Muslim world to fight its international issues like Kashmir and Palestine issues in befitting manner. He also stressed that development is the key to assert the viewpoint of Muslim Ummah at global level. He said August 5, 2019 will be remembered as a dark day in the history of India and IIOJ&K as the RSS-led Modi government deviated from his own constitution by abrogating Article 370 and 35A of the Indian Constitution.

Kashmir Hurriyat Leader Shabeer Dar said the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A is aimed at changing the Muslim-majority demographic structure of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir which is not acceptable to any Pakistani and Kashmiri. He said after the cancellation of special status of Kashmir, the RSS regime is planning to accommodate Hindu extremists in the IIOJ&K under the protection of occupational troops to turn it into a Hindu-majority state. He deplored that the Indian government has announced plans to set up soldier colonies to permanently settle Indian troops in the occupied territory.

Hurriyat leader Abdul Hameed Lone said suppressive tactics of Indian forces cannot defeat valour and passion of Kashmiris for their right to self-determination. He said India can kill the Kashmiri youth but it cannot silence their voices to get their right to self-determination which is only possible through the implementation of UN resolutions. He said people of Kashmir had been sacrificing their lives since generations to keep the passion for freedom alive.

They collectively urged the Muslim world to reiterate a pledge to continue its diplomatic, moral and political support to the Kashmiri people till they get their right to self-determination.
