Islamabad, April 29, 2014 (PPI-OT): Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker National Assembly has said that Pakistan was founded on Islamic ideals of justice and fair play, where the citizen would lead their lives in equality before law and free from all discrimination. He said this while addressing the closing session of the Conference of Networking of Ombudsmen in the OIC Member States in Islamabad, today.
The Speaker said that the prime responsibility of the State is to protect, preserve and uphold the rights and belongings of an individual. “The vision of the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah regarding equality is best personified in our Constitution, which guarantees equal rights to all its citizens” he added.
He admired the working of Ombudsman office which has given way to comprehensive network of accountability and grievances at the federal, provincial and regional level in the country. He said they have kept a watchful check on the accesses of the public functionaries and have brought justice to the poor and helpless people.
The Speaker assured the participants of the Conference that National Assembly of Pakistan will provide all its support and also welcomed the suggestions from this forum regarding legislation towards such kind of accountability and parliamentary oversight.
