Karachi, June 18, 2013 (PPI-OT): Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) disconnects supply to Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW and SB) Gharo Pumping Station 3-4 times daily for last 3 months, said KW and SB spokesperson. Due to this unannounced disruption water supply from KW and SB Ghari Pumping station also gets disconnected, he added. Whereas, Officers of KW and SB Electrical and Mechanical Department said that main cause of this disruption is poor condition of wires and overloading on wires from PMT to Gharo Station.
According to the details, residential consumers and commercial consumers especially CNG Pumping Stations in the vicinity around Gharo Pumping Station have acquired connections from this main line due to lack of electric infrastructure in the area. Furthermore, adjoining villages have also acquired connections from this main line. Due to these additional connections lines providing electricity to Gharo Pumping Station are overloaded and cause breakages and outages. Gharo Pumping Station is facing electricity disruption 3-4 times a day for last 3 months due to repair of breakages and outages.
Although KESC is cooperating with KW and SB despite their problems and tries to accommodate KW and SB as much as possible the situation is still in dire need of proper attention and solution. According to KW and SB spokesperson, supply to important areas such as P.A.F, Pakistan Navy, Shahra-e-Faisal, Large Housing Societies, Landhi, Korangi, Shah Faisal, Malir and adjoining areas depend on Gharo Pumping Station for water supply, which is up to 30 million gallon daily.
Due to these outages and breakdowns at Gharo Pumping Station these areas are facing 10 million gallon of water supply on daily basis. KW and SB spokesperson further stated that KESC authorities have been notified about the problem however the problem has not been solved yet. KW and SB has requested KESC Authorities to resolve the issue and ensure un-interrupted electric supply to Gharo Pumping Station to ensure swift provision of water to the citizens of Karachi. KW and SB requested to transfer Petrol/CNG pumps and other consumers to another line in order to ensure that citizens of Karachi get their rightful water supply quota during summers.
