Kashmir festering legacy of partition, oldest on UN agenda

Jammu, January 23, 2018 (PPI-OT):In occupied Kashmir, the pro-India National Conference (NC) Additional General Secretary, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal has taken an exception to the assertions of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh that India “won’t hesitate to cross border”, saying it smacks of a war cry and war mongering which does not behoove a person of his position and authority. Rajnath while apparently referring to Pakistan had said on Sunday that India can attack its enemies not only on its soil, but also in their territory.

Dr Mustafa Kamal addressing party functionaries in Srinagar while referring to Rajnath’s assertions said, it is unfortunately the language of an arrogant boaster and a bully. “This will not help resolve matters but only aggravate tension and animosity in the region,” he said, adding falsehood does not go far and truth always prevails is a well-established norm of life.

The NC leader said it is very unfortunate that India has always played a spoiler in the highest level Pak-India talks to resolve the Kashmir dispute. “If Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to shape the future course of Indian history, then he should waste no time in coming to grips with the situation and settle the biggest and perhaps the only impediment to lasting peace and harmony in the region – the Kashmir imbroglio which is a festering legacy of the partition and the oldest on the agenda of the UN. War cries and cries of ten bullets for every bullet fired given by some of the members of his (Rajnath’s) cabinet hardly help,” Kamal added.

Meanwhile, the NC on Tuesday lambasted the PDP-BJP regime for turning the Kashmir valley into “Jail-Khana (prison)” ahead of India’s Republic Day on January 26. As soon as the so-called Kashmir Assembly resumed business this morning, the NC members stood from their seats and asked the puppet administration to explain as why Kashmiri people were being harassed on the pretext of January 26. “Whole Kashmir Valley has been turned into a jail,” NC’s Ali Mohammad Sagar said. “People are being harassed, continuously frisked; no one is allowed to move and people are being arrested,” he added.

Another NC leader, Abdul Majid Larmi, questioned the puppet Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, over harassment of the families of mujahideen. “If anyone is militant, what is the crime of his family? Why their families and neighbours are being harassed?” he asked. He also drew attention of the House towards the ransacking of houses by Indian forces across the territory particularly in Redwani area of Kulgam.
