Srinagar, January 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, APHC leader and the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zafar Akbar Butt, has said that settlement of the Kashmir dispute is possible through implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.
Zafar Akbar Butt addressing a party meeting in Srinagar said that the political stability and peace in the region was possible only when the lingering dispute was resolved as per the UN resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
He termed the 5th January as an important chapter in Kashmir history as the UN had recognised the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination on this day in 1949. He said that the UN charter had accepted the right to self-determination for nations and though this had been given to East Timor and Southern Sudan but the Kashmir, which figured at top in the UN agenda, was being ignored. He pointed out that unless the UN resolutions on Kashmir were implemented, the efforts to strive for peace in South Asia would prove futile.
Zafar Akbar Butt also paid rich tributes to Sopore martyrs on the occasion of their 20th anniversary. He said that after a lapse of two decades the Kashmiris were still feeling pain and agony for the innocent civilians killed in gruesome tragedy. He deplored that the killers were not brought to justice yet.
