Killing of youth in Shopian strongly denounced

Srinagar, September 08, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir Hurriyet leaders have strongly condemned the killing of four youth in Shopian and injuring of another in Srinagar by the unprovoked firing of Indian Central Reserve Police Force personnel. The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq termed the incidents as the worst form of state terrorism.

He demanded an impartial probe into these incidents. He appealed to the international community to take cognizance of the bloodshed in Kashmir and exert pressure on New Delhi to put an end to human rights abuses and take measures for resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations.

The veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, termed the killings as an outrageous act by the troops. “Killings of four innocent civilians by the forces at a time when Zubin Metha’s concert was going on at Shalimar Garden should serve as an eye-opener about the ground situation in Kashmir for diplomats of various countries who were present in the function,” he said. He said that Zubin Mehta’s concert was organized to hoodwink the international community about the real aspirations of Kashmiris and ground situation here.

It is the duty of international community to take note of unabated human rights violations in Kashmir and play its role in resolution of the Kashmir dispute as per the relevant UN resolutions and aspirations of Kashmiri people, he added. The veteran leader congratulated the organizers of parallel concert Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir for highlighting the ground realities in Kashmir.

The Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik, denouncing the firing incidents said that Indian forces had once again proved that they had no respect for the lives of innocent Kashmiris. He said that the firing incidents of Shopian and Srinagar showed the frustration of New Delhi and its forces.

He maintained that after failing to contain the freedom movement through oppression, suppression, coercion, torture, killings and arrests, India and its puppets were now resorting to massacres. He said that if the world community kept on maintaining criminal silence over these acts of state terrorism, the Kashmiris would be compelled to think that world also supported these killings and actually listened to only violence and violent means.

The High Court Bar Association of the territory at a meeting chaired by its President, Mian Abdul Qayoom, in Srinagar condemned the Shopian killings. It urged the world community to discharge its obligations of compelling New Delhi to give the Kashmiris their right to self-determination.

Hurriyet leaders, Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Yasmeen Raja, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Zafar Akbar Butt, Javed Ahmed Mir, Firdous Ahmed Shah and Ghulam Ahmad Parray and the spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement, Umar Arshad Inqilabi, in their statements also condemned the Shopian killings. They said that the world community should understand that Kashmiris were not safe under Indian rule.
