Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry urges Punjab government to grant permission to sewing machine manufacturers to take part in bidding for sewing machines

Lahore, October 12, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Friday urged the Punjab government to grant permission to all sewing machine manufacturers and assemblers to take part in bidding for 100,000 sewing machines being purchased by the government for distribution among skilled and deserving women.

The LCCI Senior Vice President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh was talking to a delegation of Sewing Machine Association headed by the Chairman All Pakistan Cottage Industry and Small Traders Ghulam Sarwar Malik and comprised President Sewing Machine Association Javaid Iqbal Chaudhry, Senior Vice President Saeed Qaiser.

Javaid Iqbal Chaudhry informed the LCCI Senior Vice President that the decision to distribute sewing machines would help revive sewing machine sector provided the contract was not awarded to some single giant and give to all quality machine manufacturers.
The machine manufacturers said that they came to know that some government functionaries were trying to award contract to a single manufacturer on some plea or the other.

He said that there are over 400 sewing machine manufacturers in the province while 50,000 families are directly attached with them and Chief Minister Scheme would directly benefit them all if the contract is not given to a single party.

They feared that if the contact went to some single entity, the decision would deprive a very large number of families of their livelihood thus giving a bad name to the government that is working day in and day out for the well being of masses.
