The State of Kuwait is keen on continuing its support for humanitarian programs worldwide in line with the guidelines and orders of the country's leadership, a Kuwaiti diplomat has confirmed.

The statement was made Wednesday by the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, Jamal Al-Ghunaim, during his meeting with Deputy UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Kelly T. Clements and FAO Senior Adviser Program Development and Humanitarian Affairs Rodrigue Vinet.

Al-Ghunaim said Kuwait was keen on partaking in vital humanitarian programs led by the UN and the international community to help those in need. He also affirmed the keenness of Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people to help all those affected by natural disasters and conflicts.

On her part, Ms. Clements has said in a statement to KUNA that the UN Refugee Agency highly appreciates its partnership with Kuwait in humanitarian work, pointing out that Kuwait strictly adheres to its commitments and is always at the forefront when it comes to cooperation with UNHCR in humanitarian crisis programs. She revealed that her meeting with Ambassador Al-Ghunaim focused on the voluntary support pledged by Kuwait for the Syrian refugees at the Brussels Conference last March, in addition to UNHCR plans to ease the suffering of the Syrian refugees in neighboring countries.

Meanwhile, Vinet said that Kuwait is a major contributor to FAO programs to eradicate food shortage and hunger, stressing that Kuwait's contributions have touched every corner of the world and desolated areas. He added that cooperation with Kuwait had succeeded in protecting the lives of millions around the globe.
