Massive anti-India demonstrations in Sumbal

Srinagar, June 30, 2013 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, forceful anti-India demonstrations were held in Sumbal area of Bandipora, today, against the killing of two civilians by Indian troops.

A civilian, Irfan Ahmad Ganai, was shot dead by the troops during a siege and search operation late last night at Markandey in Sumbal. One more youth, Irshad Ahmad Dar, was killed and several others were injured when the troops fired upon the protesters demonstrating against the killing of Irfan.

Despite heavy deployment of troops and police, locals took to the streets and clashed with the forces’ personnel throughout the day resulting in injuries to several people. On the other hand, the puppet authorities placed Hurriyet leaders, Syed Ali Gilani, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Ahmed Khan under house arrest in Srinagar and took Muhammad Yasin Malik, Javed Ahmed Mir, Showkat Ahmed Bakhshi and other liberation leaders into custody to prevent them from attending the funeral of the martyred youth.

The police intercepted a delegation of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Political Movement including Firdous Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Shafi Reshi at Shallatang and didn’t allow them to proceed to Sumbal.

The APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and other Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, Nayeem Ahmed Khan, Yasmeen Raja, Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, Zafar Akbar Butt, Javed Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Ahmed Parray and the General Secretary of Jamat-e-Islami of occupied Kashmir, Dr Abdul Hamid Fayaz, in their statements and addresses denounced the killing of innocent civilians.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Syed Ali Gilani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Nayeem Ahmed Khan have called for complete shutdown in the occupied territory, tomorrow, to protest against the cold-blooded murder of innocent youth.

On the other hand, the Kashmir University authorities had to face embarrassment when the media persons didn’t stand in respect of the Indian anthem during a seminar. The authorities had not allowed the students to participate in the seminar fearing that they might disrespect the Indian anthem.
