Islamabad, February 18, 2014 (PPI-OT): Media can play an important role in creating an atmosphere of positivity and goodwill between Pakistan and India. Dr. Nazir Saeed, Secretary, Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage said this in a meeting with a media delegation of Kolkata Press Club today in the Ministry. He said that Pakistan desires friendly and cooperative relations with India and emphasized on the need to set all the issues peacefully and through dialogue.
Secretary IB and NH said that improvement in bilateral relations would be good for the peace and prosperity of the people of our region. He also underlined the need of exchange of visits by the media persons of both countries, so that they could learn from each other’s experiences and best practices.
Dr. Nazir Saeed hoped the delegation will convey to the people of India our desire to have good relations as he said that Kolkata hosts major media houses and its voice matters in shaping public opinion with regard to friendly relations between the both countries.
Secretary IB and NH further stressed on the need that journalists from both side should highlight those areas which are not only supportive to peace process but also benevolent for the welfare and prosperity of the people of both countries. The delegation appreciated the level of independence provided to media in Pakistan and wished that democracy may further flourish in the country.
The delegation was headed by Sudipta Sengupta. He said that the delegation has carried a goodwill message from the people of Pakistan and it will be reported and conveyed to the people of India in the same spirit.
