KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Admiral Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin was conferred the prestigious Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Order of Excellence) in Islamabad, Pakistan yesterday.

Nishan-e-Imtiaz is awarded to civilians and military personnel for the highest degree of service to the state and for services to international diplomacy.

The award was presented by President Mamnoon Hussain during Ahmad Kamarulzaman's five-day working visit to Pakistan.

The RMN chief said he believed that the award was a recognition from the Pakistani government on Malaysia's efforts in defence diplomacy.

I am confident that it will forge closer military ties between the RMN and the Pakistani Navy, he said in a statement issued here today.

Ahmad Kamarulzaman said that being highly trustworthy, the consistent policy of the country as well as Malaysia's status as a moderate but influential Islamic country were the important elements of effective defence diplomacy.

This is also a very clear message that despite facing various uncertain security and geo-strategic challenges, Malaysia is deemed as a reliable, committed and sincere strategic partner, he said.

Ahmad Kamarulzaman's official visit until Friday had been filled with briefings and discussions with the Pakistan Armed Forces top leaders.
