Meeting of Secretary Trade Development Authority of Pakistan with Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association’s delegation

Karachi, April 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): Today a delegation of the Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) led by Mr. Ehsan Awan, Senior Vice Chairman of PPMA met with Mrs. Rabiya Javeri Agha, the Secretary, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan at Karachi.

The most prominent traders from the industry were represented who had detailed discussions with the Secretary regarding various problems related to the export of pharmaceutical products from Pakistan.

Most highlighted issues were concerning the procedural bottlenecks that delay or inhibit growth in exports in particular; need for registration with an international inspection agency like PICS, role of Drug Regulatory Authority, continuation of trade initiatives/support from TDAP to the sector, pricing policy and non-utilization of Central Research Fund of the industry.

The members also suggested several measures that the government should take to help the industry in which special emphasis was on the role of TDAP and Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). Among the measures agreed on by the Secretary, was the establishment of a Pharma cell in TDAP that would build on the recommendations of the association and function as a liaison, and a commitment of engaging Ministry of Commerce on the procedural amendments required.
