Members won’t resign until decision by Supreme Judicial Council

Islamabad, August 31, 2015 (PPI-OT):An informal meeting of the Election Commission of Pakistan, chaired by Hon’ble Chief Election Commissioner, was held today on 31st August 2015 in the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad.

In the meeting, the demand of some political parties with regard to resignations of Hon’ble Members of the Election Commission was deliberated at length. It was decided that since the Lawyers Forum of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has already filed a reference in the Supreme Judicial Council under Article 209 of the Constitution of Pakistan, which is the proper and competent forum for deciding such matters/issues, therefore, the concerned Hon’ble Members would not take any decision about their resignations till the final decision of the Supreme Judicial Council, for the reason that they (Members) have been systematically ridiculed and stigmatized with false and baseless allegations of rigging about which they strongly feel to be adjudicated upon.
