Message of Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Pakistan Day

Islamabad, March 24, 2023 (PPI-OT): March 23 is a landmark day in our national history that reminds us of our past, invites us to reflect on our present and inspires us to build a prosperous future. This day is also the day of covenant renewal. This day takes us back to 1940 when the Muslims of the subcontinent passed a resolution to establish a separate homeland that they could call their homeland under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s dream of independence manifested itself in the form of a resolution representing the demands of Muslims and aspirations for a separate homeland. Under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam, the history-making struggle of the Muslims of the subcontinent for seven years turned Iqbal’s dream into reality.

The creation of Pakistan is certainly a miracle of the 20th century. Our journey over the past seventy-five years has seen us fight wars and many crises, including natural disasters. There have been many occasions when we have overcome adversity and achieved many milestones. As a member of the international community, Pakistan has played the role of a responsible nation in solving the problems faced by humanity and establishing world peace.

Today, as we celebrate Pakistan Day and pay tribute to the sacrifices of our founders, we must not lose sight of the challenges that lie before us. Today we are facing political and economic instability. Pakistan came into being as a result of political and constitutional struggle and its future lies in following the Constitution in its spirit.

I have no doubt that Pakistan is destined to achieve great achievements and heights. However, for this to become a reality, we have to unite our ranks, equip ourselves with a national cause and resolve to struggle as per the legacy of our forefathers. Let us hold ourselves accountable today so that we can correct our mistakes and shortcomings. Nations that are capable of analyzing their past, learning from their mistakes and reforming can achieve real success.
