Karachi, June 14, 2013 (PPI-OT): METRO-Habib Cash and Carry Pakistan, complying with regulation of Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), regarding prohibiting manufacture, import, sale and use of non-degradable plastic bags and other plastic products has launched Environment Friendly, Oxo-Biodegradable Bags in commemoration of World Environment Day at all its 9 stores nationwide.
The bags have been sponsored by well-know P and G brands, Head and Shoulders and Pantene. P and G is a long-term and trusted business partner, who has partnered with METRO on the Reusable Bag and Recyclable Bag launches in previous years as well.
These bags are controlled life plastic bags with D2W additive and start degradation after 18 months in normal environment. D2W additive added in these environment friendly plastic bags is also tested against food packaging and is declared safe for food. Weight carrying capacity of these bags is approx 8 kg. These bags are recyclable and reusable.
Chief Guest on the occasion was Pierre Mayaudon, EU Deputy Head of Delegation. Also present on the occasion was a delegation from P and G, honourable government dignitaries, foreign diplomats, METRO’s top customers and suppliers.
“Keeping the legacy of providing sustainable, environment and customer friendly solutions since 2010 and 2011, METRO-Habib Cash and Carry Pakistan has introduced Oxo-Biodegradable Bags in 2013 which have graced our shop floors on 14th June, 2013.
These bags will be sold at our tills for Rs. 5 per piece. These environment friendly bags start degradation after certain period of time which saves our environment from plastic bag pollution and are now available at all our 9 wholesale centers across the country” , said Bouzeneth Benaouda, Managing Director.
Mr. Benaouda further said that this Oxo-biodegradable packaging is now being used in METRO’s F and V, Spices and Commodities and Bakery Sections. Along with this new product we are also offering METRO branded Reusable Bags to our customers with further improved and better quality and attractive color variants. Combined together, it is a whole new step towards “Going Green” and “Saving the Environment” from conventional plastic pollution.
