Mukesh Kumar Chawala inaugurates Excise and Taxation office building

Karachi, July 14, 2020 (PPI-OT): Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawala said on Tuesday that Sindh Excise and Taxation was an important component of Sindh government and playing a key role in collecting taxes and taking effective measures against drug peddlers across the Sindh province.

It is a matter of great satisfaction that despite hard time due to coronavirus, Sindh ET Department had achieved more than 100% tax target during fiscal year 2019-20. This he said while talking to media after inaugurating new building of Director General ET and NC at II Chundrigar Road Karachi. On this occasion, Secretary Excise and Taxation and Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director General ET and NC Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui, MD SPPRA Abdul Rahim Shaikh and other directors were also present.

Earlier, Chawala inaugurated the new building. He also visited the various parts of the building and appreciated the working environment there. He said that when in 2008, Pakistan Peoples Party assumed the government in Sindh, the total tax collection was Rs7.29 billion and during fiscal year 2019-20, the tax collection was more than Rs80 billion. He said Sindh Excise and Taxation Department would launch smart card having multiple security features, within couple of weeks.

He said that Sindh Excise Department was the second largest tax collecting agency after SBR. Addressing the officers in conference hall, Chawala asked them to work hard and get their tax targets on time besides collecting taxes.

At arrival, Abdul Haleem Shaikh and Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui welcomed Chawala and briefed him about the performance of the department. Chawala lauded the performance of the officers and officials and expressed his hope that they would continue to perform their duties in the same spirit. DG Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told that a facilitation centre would also be established to facilitate the tax payers.
