Muttahida Quami Movement Delegation Meet the Prime Minister

Islamabad: Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Dr. Farooq Sattar, Minister for Ports and Shipping, Babar Khan Ghauri, Minister of State for Overseas, Ahsan Nadeem and Senator Syeda Sughra Imam called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani at PM’s Secretariat here today and apprised the Prime Minister about the progress on the mega projects like Layari Expressway, Karachi-Hyderabad M9 motorway, Karachi Circular Railway and K-4 Water Supply Scheme for the Karachi residents

The Prime Minister said that funds will be allocated for the immediate resumption of work on Layari Expressway as 70% of the project has already been completed.

On the M9 Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, the Prime Minister said that the Malaysian firm has signed the agreement to undertake the project under BOT for which the company is actively engaged to mobilize its resources on fast track basis.

On the Karachi Circular Railway, the delegation of MQM said that JICA is willing to extend loans of $ one billion on soft terms for the project the completion of which would provide respectable and efficient public transport facility to the residents of Karachi.

On K-4 Water Supply Scheme, being a provincial subject, the Prime Minister said that he would ask the Provincial Government to prioritize the project in view of the pressing needs of water supply for the residents of the Metropolis.

The Prime Minister also directed to look into the estimates projected in the PC-1 of the project which seemed to be on the higher side.

The Prime Minister also directed Senator Syeda Sughra Imam to coordinate with the Ministry of Finance, Planning Division and Government of Sindh in this regard and also keep the Prime Minister abreast of the progress on the mega projects on regular basis.
The MQM delegation thanked the Prime Minister for taking keen interest in the mega projects of Karachi.
