National Master Trainers-Faculty Professional Development Programme concludes

Islamabad, October 25, 2012 (PPI-OT): 19th National Master Trainers-Faculty Professional Development Program (MT-FPDP) organized by Learning Innovation Division, Higher Education Commission (HEC) concluded here at HEC secretariat Islamabad. About 27 faculty members from 24 public and private sector universities across Pakistan were certified as Master Trainers.

Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash, Chairman, Senate Standing Committee on Education and Training, Senate of Pakistan was the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony of the program. Prof. Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, Chairperson, Higher Education Commission HEC and Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi Executive Director, HEC were also present on the occasion.

Master Trainers Faculty Professional Development Program (MT-FPDP) is an eight week in- service orientation program particularly designed to equip the teaching faculty with the latest pedagogical and research skills required for effective teaching and research.

The whole span of the program was an arduous exercise which included thirteen core modules and additional sessions on different important social topics. Recreational and study trips were also arranged to different historic places. The main objective of this intensive training is to enhance and enrich the teaching abilities of teachers to ensure quality education which is entirely dependent on the quality of teachers.

The program caters to participants of both pure and social sciences; therefore the outcome is multi variant. The Master Trainers-Faculty Professional Development Program also aims to enable University teachers to use innovative teaching strategies and communication skills that blend academic concepts with workplace applications.

The Chairperson HEC, Prof. Dr. Javaid R. Laghari took professional oath from the participants whereby they vowed to the Almighty that they will stick to the professional honesty, moral and ethical values and keep on learning and imparting knowledge with full devotion.

Ms. Noor Amna Malik (DG LI) presented overview of the program, briefed the audience about the objectives of MT-FPDP. She informed that so far 551 members belonging to different HEIs have been benefitted from this course in 19 batches.

Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, Executive Director, HEC said that without professional development of faculty, quality of teaching and research cannot be improved in the universities. Realizing this fact, HEC has undertaken a number of initiatives.

Prof. Dr. Javaid R. Laghari, Chairperson, HEC said at the occasion that as an outcome of dedicated hard work of faculty, investment and revolutionary reforms introduced within last few years in higher education sector in Pakistan. 06 Pakistani universities have won their place in the list of top 300 Asian universities.

The Chief Guest of the ceremony Senator Abdul Nabi Bangash lauded the efforts of HEC for brining revolutionary reforms in higher education sector of Pakistan. He congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the faculty professional development program and appreciated that they will further cascade their training to other teachers in their respective institutions. In the end Chief Guest distributed certificates among the participants.
