No suspension of polio campaign as it is being conducted by government: Minister

Islamabad, November 28, 2014 (PPI-OT): Minister of State for National Health Services, Saira Afzal Tarar in an official statement reiterated the commitment of the Government to continue to implement the Program in the country. “The Polio Program is being led by the Government and development partners are providing technical support to the Government”, said Minister, National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination.

The Federal Government has the strongest commitment to deal with the scourge of the poliovirus in this current low transmission season. Prime Minister of Pakistan is directly supervising the Polio Eradication Initiative in the country with a firm resolve of eradicating this disease from the country.

Stressing on the commitment of the National and Provincial Governments, Minister said that the Polio Program is being implemented by Provincial Governments in partnership with the technical partners of WHO and UNICEF.

Polio campaigns will be conducted in the low transmission season by the Provincial Governments. Saira Afzal Tarar confirmed that Federal Government will provide all out support to the Provincial governments to take all necessary steps for safety of the polio workers in the field and to ensure safe conduct of Polio Campaigns.
