Islamabad, November 18, 2020 (PPI-OT): At the United Nations, Pakistan has reaffirmed its opposition to adding new permanent members in an enlarged UN Security Council. Speaking at the UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the world body, Munir Akram, said India, which aspires for a seat in the Security Council, does not even qualify for it due to New Delhi’s violations of its resolutions on Kashmir.
He said India has waged twenty wars since its independence and fomented terrorism and instability across the region, especially against Pakistan. Munir Akram said Islamabad has clear and ample evidence of India’s state sponsored terrorism and resorts to daily artillery and small arms fire, targeting innocent civilians on Pakistan side of the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the reform of the UN Security Council must be part of a broader revival of the multilateral system, with a balance between the Council and the General Assembly.
