Visit of Chinese President to Pakistan would not only be a game changer but a fate changer of nearly 3 billion people living in this part of world: Shah Faisal Afridi
Lahore, April 21, 2015 (PPI-OT): Mr. Shah Faisal Afridi, President Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry has said that the visit of Chinese President to Pakistan would not only be a “Game Changer” but a “Fate Changer” of nearly 3 billion of people living in this part of world. In a press statement issued here today, he said that President Xi visit to Pakistan would prove to be a milestone in increasing mutual trust, cooperation and Regional Connectivity between both the nations. Chinese President Xi Jinping visit to Pakistan will be of paramount significance strategically to address a wide range of issues including Pakistan endeavours in war on terror, Baluchistan situation, peace in Afghanistan and mediation on Yemen conflict.
He said that China and Pakistan are the “Iron Friends” and strong brotherly relations would be knitted into bilateral economic activities like Pak-China Economic Corridor. The two countries have agreed on economic and energy deals worth more than $40 billion, he added.
Faisal Afridi said that it is for the first time in history of Pakistan that Chinese private sector will directly invest in Pakistan. He said that China is helping Pakistan in different sectors including defence and energy projects. He was confident that the Chinese investment will trigger economic revolution in Pakistan.
He elaborated that Xi’s trip has special focus on Pakistan-China Economic Corridor, a planned $46-billion network of roads, railways and energy projects linking Pakistan’s deepwater Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea with China’s far-western Xinjiang region. He said that after signing of the submarine deal, China may also offer Pakistan concessions on building a refuelling and mechanical station in Gawadar .
He said that Xi’s state visit to Pakistan is the first time a Chinese leader has visited the country in nine years. In fact, it is Chinese president’s first foreign trip this year, which is highlighting the importance Beijing places on developing Pakistan-China relations, he said adding added that the Chinese president’s visit “is seeking to lay out a comprehensive plan for Pakistan-China relations and cooperation over the next five-10 years that will take relations to a new level.”
Faisal Afridi stated that China’s role in the current international financial system is constructive and we had to make some efforts and contributions on our part. He appreciated the Chinese Endeavours on the formation of the AIIB that is intended to play a complementary role alongside existing multilateral development banks.
He said that Pakistan should enhance the capacity of the current system rather than any intention to overthrow it. Pakistan should realize that, if we become the bridge between the engines of growth, we will be able to carve out a large economic bloc of about 3 billion living in this part of the world…nearly half the planet.” “This is going to be a Fate-Changer for Pakistan,” said Shah Faisal Afridi.
Talking about the importance of Economic Corridor Faisal Aridi said that ‘If ‘One Belt, One Road’ is like a symphony involving and benefiting every country, then construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is the sweet melody of the symphony’s first movement.’
Afridi observed that One Belt, one Road would bring a major breakthrough in socio-economic ties between Pakistan and China by enhancing the scope of people-to-people contacts between the two nations. Moreover the revival of Silk Route would be a big advantage to all those countries situated alongside economic belt of this route, which will ultimately add strategic and economic value to Pakistan, he added.
He told that Gawadar port is really significant to China. The reason behind this vital importance is that 60 percent of oil is being imported by China from gulf countries and reaches to it after covering the distance of 16,000 KMs. After the completion of Gawadar port project, the distance will reduce to 2500 KMs only which is, from all aspects, more safe and feasible.
He said that Pak-China economic corridor would empower half of the world’s population living in Asia, by developing special trade routes between China and Pakistan. Gwadar is termed as “the future of Pakistan”. Due to its location on the channel of Central Asia, Middle East and Asia, it can flourish as the World’s business centre. The Chinese assistance in the development of this port is essential in positively impacting Pakistan’s economy, he added.
Faisal Afridi appreciated the deep interest taken by the Nawaz government in accomplishment of the Corridor project and said that Pakistan’s prosperity is no more a longer journey as the current leadership is working diligently on such projects whose outcomes would be visible and bright in a shorter period of time.
