Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani presents credentials to President Obama

Islamabad, March 10, 2014 (PPI-OT): Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani presented his credentials to President Barack H. Obama in an impressive ceremony at the White House this morning. Ambassador Jilani was accompanied by Mrs. Shaista Jilani and sons Talha Jilani and Ahmed Mustafa Jilani.

In receiving the Ambassador, President Obama said that Pakistan and the US have a long standing relationship, based on mutual respect and shared recognition that a strong partnership between our two nations is vital to regional and international security.

President Obama also noted that he remains committed to deepening and strengthening the bilateral relationship and that Prime Minister Sharif?s October 2013 visit to the US and the January 2014 Ministerial Review of the Strategic Dialogue reflected the continued commitment on both sides to enhancing the US-Pakistan relationship.

Ambassador Jilani conveyed highest personal regards and best wishes from the President and the Prime Minister of Pakistan to President Obama as well as warm and cordial greetings from the people of Pakistan to the people of the United States.

He said that it was an honour for him to be representing Pakistan as Ambassador to the United States. Ambassador Jilani said that during his tenure in Washington DC, it would be his priority to further build the positive momentum and strengthen the Pakistan-U.S. relationship to make it truly reflective of the mutual desire on both sides to continue with the ongoing robust security cooperation, while expanding collaboration in economic, trade, education, health and science and technology sectors.

Another important area of his focus would be to promote people to people contacts and help educate the people of both countries about each other. Ambassador Jilani also expressed his belief that collective and sustained efforts will enable both sides to lay down the foundations of a partnership that is rooted in the shared ideals of democracy and freedom, thrives on mutuality of trust, interest and benefit and seeks to maximize the convergences that the two countries have.
