Sindh has good potential of indigenous sources of energy, has floated investment opportunities to generate Coal, Wind and Solar based energy in the province: Qaim Ali Shah
Karachi, December 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah has said that Sindh has good potential of indigenous sources of energy and has floated many opportunities of investment to generate Coal, Wind and Solar based energy in Sindh. The Chief Minister called foreign investors to come forward, invest and exploit the untapped sources of energy for the betterment of both sides.
This he said while talking the delegation of the Shanghai Electric Company which called on him in the leadership of LV YACHEN Company Vice President last night at CM House Karachi.The Chief Minister Sindh said that Sindh has potential of coal resources upto 99.%, wind potential upto 90% and gas sources upto 70% in addition to potential of solar energy.
He said that Sindh has huge indigenous sources and it could bring the country out from energy crises alone as such his govt was actively working on energy production. He said that we have twelve Blocks in Thar coal area out of which we have leased out Four Blocks of Thar coal to the International Standard Companies and have called interest of expression from international companies to lease out other four Blocks of Thar Coal in January 2014.
He said we have floated another coal based power project at Keti Bandar aimed to generate 6000 mega watt of electricity in phases with installation of two power plants with capacity of 660 mw each in 1st phase.
This project has also component of laying 200 km railway line for transportation of coal from Thar Coal mines, provision of Jeety to import coal till the transmission of Thar coal is matured and laying power transmission lines from project area to Jamshoro and Karachi.
He informed the delegation that Sindh has huge potential more than 20,000MW in wind energy and Government has floated another project for investment in this sector in which 18 companies have expressed their interest out of these 8 are Chinese. In Addition to that Sindh has good potential in Solar Energy as well.
He said that he had recently visited China, to discuss and deliberate with Chinese investors to invest in Sindh where the environment is conducive, labour is available at cheap rate and government is providing all incentives and other facilities to investors. He asked the delegates to avail the opportunities of investment in above projects and assured them for full support. He said that China was the old and trust worthy friend of Pakistan and Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and his counterpart PM of China were the architectures of this friendship.
He said that China has the expertise and Technology to generate power and we want to avail their expertise in energy sector. The Advisor to Chief Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah said that it was PPP Government that discovered 180 billion tons of coal reserves at Thar area in 1991 and initiated for coal based power projects in 1995-96 to overcome the power crises but unfortunately the succeeding govt didn’t pay heed to this important project.
He said that PPP has one again taken this Thar Coal power project into hand since 2008 when it came into power and since then lot of work has been done and we are going for mining of 6.5 million ton Coal annually from next year subsequently will generate 600 Mega Watt power in two phases during 2015 with joint venture of a local and Chinese company.
Mr LV yachen Vice President of Shanghai Electric while talking on the occasion said that his company has expertise to generate power through Coal, Nuclear, Gas and Hydro etc. He said that they came here looking for the opportunities of investment and avail the same.
Elaborating the strength and achievements of his company he said that they intend to contribute for the development of Pakistan and Sindh as they consider them their good friend. The Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana , Secretary Energy Agha Wasif Abbas, Secretary Finance Sohail Rajput, Secretary to CM Sindh Rai Sikandar, MD Thar Coal and other officers were also present on this occasion.
