Supreme Court orders Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank Limited to deposit Rs 9 million to National Accountability Bureau
Islamabad, March 26, 2014 (PPI-OT): Supreme Court (SC) ordered Punjab Provincial Cooperative Bank Ltd (PPCBL) to deposit Rs. 6,525,489/- out of Rs 9,048,000/- to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) within a week and the remaining amount within two weeks time. Muhammad Akbar Tarar, Additional Prosecutor General NAB appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in this case.
On April 04, 2007 NAB had arrested Sibatul Hassan Gillani alias Double Shah in a case of cheating public at large. NAB Punjab recovered Rs. 20 million from Raja Mukhtarul Hassan through Voluntary Return (VR) while recovery of remaining amount was in progress. In the mean time one of the accused persons approached Lahore High Court (LHC).
On March 11, 2010 LHC had directed the Manager PPCBL to hand over the amount to NAB authorities, which was put under caution by NAB and the petition was disposed of.
Meanwhile PPCBL filed a petition in Supreme Court of Pakistan with the stance that the learned Division Bench has solely believed on the submission of Investigation Officer. SC accepting NAB’s stance ordered Bank today to deposit defrauded amount to the Bureau.
