Peshawar, May 12, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan has desired to facilitate the repatriation of displaced tribal families of Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency and certain areas of Kurram Agency to the maximum possible extent and assured that every possible measure will be taken to manage compensation to them as per given criteria.
Presiding over a detail briefing on the ongoing repatriation arrangements of the respective tribal families at Governor’s House, Peshawar on Tuesday afternoon, the Governor said, “indeed we have to divert resources; prioritize our immediate requirements and make a smooth repatriation and rehabilitation of the affected tribal families within the shortest possible time”.
The Additional Chief Secretary, FATA, Arbab Muhammad Arif, Director General, FDMA and the Political Agent, Kurram Agency, Riaz Khan Mehsud briefed the Governor about the prevailing situation with regard to repatriation of affected tribal families and the future needs in making this possible. Principal Secretary to Governor and the Secretary, Pand D, FATA Secretariat were also present on this occasion.
“With the completion of the ongoing process of 7230 tribal families of Tirah Valley of Khyber Agency, we would fully cover the task, as far as this particular is concerned and then onward our focus will be on their resettlement and rehabilitation of infrastructure facilities to facilitate them in their native places”, the Governor was told. To make this possible, it was added, Rs. 100 millions have already been released while a total of additional amount of more than Rs. 150 million are required on emergent basis to facilitate the repatriation process.
Taking keen interest in the progress achieved so far and the future needs for ensuring well being of the affected families, the Governor asked the concerned authorities to come up with concrete proposals within next few days, as far as rehabilitation of the affected tribal families of the Tirah Valley are concerned.
While referring to the repatriation and rehabilitation of the affected tribal families of Kurram Agency, the Governor said, it indeed is tragic situation that hundreds of families are still living in camps. Referring to his address to the tribal jirga held at Kurram Agency recently, the Governor said, I am fully committed to make this agency a model for entire FATA in all respects and there is a need that repatriation and rehabilitation of displaced tribal families have to be resettled first.
“We need to handle the situation effectively and efficiently and make a concrete headway in facilitating the repatriation of affected families possible”, he said.
As far as meeting of financial requirements are concerned, the Governor said, keeping in view the huge volume of Rs. 610 million required on emergent basis for this purpose, we also have to take special measures in fulfilling the task. “We have to take special measures to fully tackle all these humanitarian problems and Inshallah we will try our best to overcome them within the shortest possible time”, he said.
