Karachi, September 03, 2013 (PPI-OT): To mark the 68th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia which was celebrated on 17th August 2013, Indonesian Consul General in Karachi and Mrs. Rossalis R. Adenan hosted a reception at the Karachi’s DHA Country and Golf Club Convention Hall on the evening of 2nd September 2013.
The reception was attended by Federal and Sindh Government officials, including the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (Mr. Yaseen Anwar) and the Senior Minister for Education of Sindh (Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro), senators, members of Sindh Parliament, diplomats, honorary consul generals, businessmen, politicians and representatives from civil society in Karachi.
It was started by playing the national anthems of Indonesia and Pakistan and followed by remarks of the Consul General and the Chief Minister of Sindh, Mr. Syed Qaim Ali Shah who was the Chief Guest at the reception.
On his remarks, the Consul General welcomed all the guests and extended the warmest regards of the Indonesian Ambassador to Pakistan and Mrs. Burhan Muhammad to those who are attending the reception. He also extended warmest and sincerest felicitation to the Government and people of Pakistan, particularly in Sindh Province, on the auspicious occasion of the 66th Independence Day of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan which was celebrated on 14th August 2013.
The Consul General shortly elaborated the Indonesian current economic development under the dynamic leadership of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono which was characterized, among others by significant achievement in economic growth amid the current global economy slowdown.
He underlined the newly implemented Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between Indonesia and Pakistan which started entering into force on 1st September 2013 and will further increase the bilateral trade volume as well as pave the way to the signing of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two brotherly countries.
The Consul General expressed his confidence that the future of bilateral economic relations between the two brotherly countries will be more strengthened in years ahead, bearing in mind the Pakistan’s economy as the second largest in the Region, and is one of the emerging markets in the World, while Indonesia is the largest economy in ASEAN and member of the G-20. In line with the increasing bilateral trade volume of the two brotherly countries, he believed that the role of Karachi as the hub of commercial activities and the entry point of the foreign commodities export, including from Indonesian to this Region will be more important in the years ahead.
The Chief Minister of Sindh who in his speech congratulated the Indonesian Consul General on the auspicious occasion. He reiterated the longstanding relations between the two brotherly countries which has been established since a long time, and underlined the huge potentials the two countries have that should be further explored for the mutual benefit of the two countries, particularly in economic sector, among others through business to-business contact. With the huge potentials and similarities the two countries have, he believed that the bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries will be further strengthened.
During the function, some Indonesian traditional cuisine were served and Balinese dances were performed which were much appreciated by the guests.
