Deal signed between Defence Housing Authority, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority for Integrated Communication Technology works for Defence Housing Authority City Karachi
Karachi, November 28, 2013 (PPI-OT): A Contract Signing Ceremony between DHA and PTCL for initiation of Integrated Communication Technology (ICT) works towards making DHA City Karachi (DCK) as the first Smart City of Pakistan was held at DHA Main Office here today.
The concept of smart cities envisages modern residential localities having well managed, integrated physical and digital infrastructures that provide optimal services in a reliable, cost effective and sustainable manner while maintaining and improving the quality of life for its residents.
Administrator DHA Brig Muhammad Abdullah congratulated PTCL for becoming the partner of DHA in making the first Smart City project of the country. He said that the event was yet another landmark towards developing DHA City Karachi as a planned, sustainable and futuristic city of international stature. He reiterated that DHA would contribute in every way to ensure that the vision of Smart City was transformed into a reality.
Brig Abdullah said that with development of DHA City Karachi we would enter a new era of modernity where residents would enjoy their lives with international living standards. He said that the new ICT networks and technologies present a huge opportunity in terms of making DCK more sustainable through providing real-time information to the residents, stakeholders and service operators.
Mr Walid Irshad, President and CEO PTCL said that with the contract signing ceremony a foundation has been laid for developing the first Smart City in Pakistan having all modern facilities needed today and provisioned for tomorrow.
He revealed that in DCK, an infrastructure would be laid capable of meeting higher bandwidth requirements of future Smart City adding that the roadmap for ICT was based on Optical Fiber with higher availability of wireless applications like 3G and LTE.
Earlier Director DCK said that ICT infrastructure will also be used for management of urban requirements of Smart City like surveillance, disaster management and e-governance etc. He said that the physically built infrastructure was seemed as the skeleton, the communications’ infrastructure as the nerves and veins and virtual overlay as muscles and organs which would make the city to breathe and move in a vivid manner. A large number of DHA and PTCL officials and press/media persons attended the ceremony.
