Pakistan Tanners Association has sent SOS to Governor Sindh to rescue dying industries in Korangi Industrial Area due to severe water drought
Karachi, December 06, 2013 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) has sent a SOS to the Governor Sindh to immediately rescue dying industries in Korangi Industrial Area’s Sector 7-A due to severe water drought due to blockage of all resources of water to the area.
In his SOS to the Governor Sindh Chairman PTA (SZ) Fawad Jawed said that at this juncture when underground water is drying up rapidly, the only source of water to the water intensive leather industries were getting this raw material through tankers but closure of all hydrants in the area by the KWSB, that too has been stopped.
Fawad said that on the other hand a huge amount of Rs44 million released by the Governor for water supply project through KWSB is also feared to go waste as KWSB has abandoned the project after laying 12 inches dia pipeline from Chamra Chowrangi to Sector 7-A in order to supply water from KWSB’s main line which remains abandoned for over a year as it never connected to the KWSB’s WTM (Water Trunk Main).
He further said that the work on Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants project has not been started by the executing agency and it is for sure that the precious funds are being wasted.
He said that the Managing Director KWSB, Qutubuddin Shaikh said in his last above meeting with the PTA that supply of water to Tannery Zone is linked with installation of 02-Planned Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants, but he was pointed out that the 2.5-kilometer long pipeline was laid to connect Tannery Zone water supplying pipeline network with 33-Inches Main Pipri water lines of KWSB at Chamra round-about understandably in compliance with PTA (S.Z) demand to supply water from Pipri Main. But the line has not been connected either with Main 33 Inches Pipri Pipeline at Chamra roundabout nor with water supply pipeline network laid in Tannery Zone sometimes back.
Hence the Tannery Zone continues to be without water for over last 10-years. Shoib Ahmed Siddiqui, Commissioner Karachi has recently warned that rightly pointed out that the delay in release of water in Tannery Zone water pipeline network will render them unable to stand water pressure and the pipes will crack if water is released into them after inordinately delay and the huge amount spend on it will be wasted. He demanded the Governor to order KWSB to immediately release Tannery Zone’s share of water into the pipeline for the sake of country’s exports and to save the huge amounts spent on laying the pipeline.
