Srinagar, February 08, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has demanded the transfer of mortal remains of Kashmiri martyred leaders, Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru, who are buried in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail, to Kashmir. Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged on February 11, 1984, while Muhammad Afzal Guru was sent to gallows last year on February 9. Both were buried in the premises of the New Delhi’s Tihar jail.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in his statement from New Delhi said that the execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru and his burial in the New Delhi’s Tihar jail was a spot on the face of India, which claimed to be the largest democracy of the world. He said that arrests and killings could not prevent the Hurriyet leaders and the people of Kashmir from their just struggle for securing their right to self-determination.
The APHC Chairman also condemned the crackdown on the people of Kashmir by the authorities to thwart conducting of various programmes in connection with the martyrdom anniversaries of Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru. He said that Kashmiris would take the ongoing liberation movement to its logical conclusion, despite all odds.
He also denounced the arrest of Hurriyet leaders including Zafar Akbar Butt, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War and Hakeem Abdur Rasheed, terming it frustration of the Indian government and its puppet administration in the occupied territory.
