Srinagar, March 07, 2014 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian writers, intellectuals, human rights activists and civil society members have denounced the registration of a case under sedition charges against the Kashmiri students for cheering Pakistan’s victory against India in Asia Cup.

Commenting on registration of the case Kashmiri students in Uttar Pradesh under sedition charges Professor Dr Marnal Satesh, Sameegha Ghalati, Daleep D Soza and others ridiculed on Facebook that Indian government should also file a sedition case against Jhelum, Chenab and Indus rivers for flowing into Pakistan.

They said if an Indian cricketer would show poor performance against Pakistan, tomorrow, a sedition case would be filed against him. The Awami Ittihaad Party (AIP) led by Engineer Rasheed threatened to launch agitation if the sedition charges against Kashmiri students were not immediately withdrawn.

Coaching Centres Association (CCA) of Kashmir termed the charging of Kashmiri students with sedition as an unfortunate event that runs a risk of alienating an entire generation of Kashmiris.

Kashmir University Students Union (KUSU) described the action as the murderous assault. Batting strongly for dialogue to resolve the issue, Jammu and Kashmir Congress Chief, Saifuddin Soz, said slapping of sedition charges against Kashmiri students was an extreme step and cannot be supported.
